Clarifying your sound is very important if you are mixing and mastering the final touches of your production. It is essential to have a good pair of headphones or even better a great set of studio monitors. Sometimes we normally find ourselves placing our studio monitors over our mixing desk or on solid stands. Meaning we place our speakers directly in contact with solid wood, metal or even plastic, this sometimes can get tricky because the vibrations and resonant energy that is emitted by our loudspeakers or studio monitors can trigger unnecessary sounds or as some say sound contamination.
PreSonus has developed a unique solution for this problem, and they are called ISPD-4 isolation pads. These are foam pads design specifically for the purpose by isolating speaker vibrations from your supporting surface reducing considerably if not cancelling unwanted vibrations and improving sound clarity. These isolation pads are sold in pairs and can be easily divided into halves depending on your personal configuration or the size of your monitor speakers. They are universal so you don’t have to worry about perfect fitment, they are pretty straight forward simple and effective.
If you still need the exact dimensions of the pads here it is: (WxDxH): 10.4” (265 mm) x 13” (330 mm) x 1.6” (40 mm). These pads can be found on several online music and equipment shops and are not that expensive for the added value they have. It is suggested to also think that if you can still perceive unwanted sounds or as we mentioned before sound contamination during your mixing even after placing your monitor speakers on these pads, that you start to focus on other elements in your room or studio that might be causing acoustic contamination. There are vast simple tricks out there that you can find and apply to get rid of unwanted noise in a room, but it is also important to consider designing your room or studio with acoustic panels.
