The Alesis Q25 is a small-to-medium keyboard controller that belongs to the Alesis Q family of MIDI controllers. It is pretty straight forward when it comes to design and capabilities. For instance, it has a 25-keynote keyboard that allows you to play and control vast MIDI hardware and software. These keys are velocity-sensitive, which makes this one an expressive keyboard to play on a live performance. Similarly, you can think of it as sensitive enough to express your own touch at your home studio. Moreover, this controller is USB MIDI ready, as well as traditional MIDI ready, to connect your Mac, PC, or any MIDI hardware you choose.
Alesis Q25: Features
Hooking up the Alesis Q25 to your favorite DAW is easy. If you don’t have any, out of the box you’ll find a CD with the lite version of Ableton software. With this, you can begin creating right away. Plus, assigning parameters will take you seconds. Moreover, with its pitch and modulation wheels, you can capture captivating musical expression. Another great feature is that it’s bus powered via USB, which lets you charge your controller without too many cables. (If you’d like to add extra expression to your performance, you could include a sustain pedal to the mix, but this comes in a separate package.)
The Q25 also works with the Apple iPad. It does so through a special USB adaptor. Unfortunately, this, too, you must buy additionally. However, it’s class-compliant, which means that it doesn’t require you to instal drivers on your computer. Within only 4.6 lbs and dimensions of 19″, the Alesis Q25 is a portable music production essential with complete MIDI capabilities. It enables you to perform, play, and record with any MIDI software or hardware out there. It may not be flashy and full of knobs and sliders, but it definitely is a hands-on MIDI keyboard controller that will get the job done right.
